Mat Robinson
I grew up in Richmond, North Yorkshire, and now divide my time between here and York where I am studying for an MPhys degree in Physics. From a very early age, climbing the hills and clambering through the streams of the local dales has been a key part of my life and has shaped the way I view the world around me. I am very proud both of the part of the world that I was born in and that in which I now choose to live, and think that photographs are the best way of capturing that feeling to show others.
Most of my original work aims to be an amalgamation of my admiration of the beauty of nature along with my basic search for understanding it. Over time this has developed to encompass my appreciation of the beauty that can be found in simplicity. I am particularly drawn to the charm of historical buildings from the grandeur of Richmond castle to the textures of a lowly Yorkshire barn. I am also inspired by the idea of contrast, especially that of light and dark and the varying sizes of different objects. I try to demonstrate this in my work by leading the viewer away from the subject and into it's surroundings.
