Paul Garner

I am primarily a landscape artist drawing and painting in a variety of media. Living in the Yorkshire Dales provides inspiration for my work, which includes elements of humour (an area I believe is sadly neglected in Art), surrealism and a celebration of the spiritual aspects of nature. Other areas of the UK have provided further creative impetus, e.g. the Orkney Islands.

The media I work in ranges from graphite, pen & ink, watercolours and pastels, sometimes using a combination of these to produce highly detailed pieces ranging in size from A4 to A1. Commissions have included Book Illustration, cartoon work, for magazines and t-shirts, and a ceiling painting for a local hostelry. Most recently, I have illustrated a tourism guide for Local Heritage Initiative on The Corpse Way in Swaledale, "A path from Keld to Grinton - a historic path down a northern dale".

In addition to this, I have undertaken several Artist-in-Residencies with Inner City schoolchildren at their schools and, on location in, the Dales. Exhibitions have included Leyburn and Northallerton (both at the Aspects of Art Gallery), Richmond (Richmondshire Museum and Phoenix Fine Arts), Bedale (Dovetail Interiors), Swaledale (Punch Bowl Inn) and Whitby (Wrangham Hotel).
