Richmond Landmark Disappears (8 Oct 2009)
One of Richmond's well-known landmarks has been demolished. The ATS garage on Reeth Road, a familiar building to many locals, has been levelled to make way for five modern townhouses.
Gallowfields-based builder, newroc, will start construction of the three-storey homes before Christmas and expects them to be completed in September next year. The houses will each have three bedrooms and have been designed to suit young families and first-time buyers. As with other newroc developments, buyers will be able to choose their own kitchen and bathrooms from a group of local specialist companies.
Graeme Newton, newroc's Managing Director who bought Randall Orchard Construction five years ago, said: "Many locals remember the yellow ATS garage but it had become pretty tatty over recent years.
“This small development will definitely smarten up that area and it's a great location - close to the town centre but also within easy reach of the riverside. We've designed these houses to make the most of the space with some clever ideas inside, and outside we are taking care to make sure that the buildings fit in with the surroundings and enhance the area.”
