Richmondshire Green Awards (24 Feb 2010)
Richmondshire is launching its second ‘Green Awards’ to celebrate all the good ideas in the District that have improved the environment in a lasting way.
There will be four categories for Business, Sustainable Tourism, Youth and Education, and Community Groups or individuals. The awards will recognise and publicise the hard work of organisations, businesses and individuals who, over the past twelve months, have demonstrated an active commitment to good environmental practice and promoted sustainable development. Examples would include ideas that were concerned with climate change, recycling, waste minimisation, nature conservation and green transport.
Posters and leaflets publicising the awards are being distributed round the District and more information is available on the District Council website and this website. Anyone wishing to apply should write about their project on three sides of A4 and submit the application by Wednesday 31st March. It will be looked at by a panel of experienced judges. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and the prize giving will be later in the year.
The Green Awards are the idea of the Green Living Group of the Local Strategic Partnership. Local businessman and chairman of the Green Living Group, Peter Warne said “Our last Green Awards really captured the public imagination and some excellent initiatives came forward. The awards are a win-win scenario because good ideas will receive the recognition they deserve and good practice will be shared with others. I feel sure that the awards will raise the profile of green issues in the District.”
