Charities Work Together for Easter Egg Hunt (26 Mar 2010)
Two local charities are continuing to work together to ensure the cost of taking part in Richmond’s popular annual Easter egg hunt is kept as low as possible.
Richmond Duck Club has given £200 to the land charity ROSA so that entry to its Easter Egg Treasure Hunt on Easter Saturday can be kept at only £2 per ticket. This is the second year that the Duck Club has made such a donation, following the success of last year’s sell-out event.
Each child taking part in the hunt receives a medium-sized boxed chocolate egg. This year’s trail, which follows clues on the town’s ancient Westfield pastures, takes place on Saturday 3rd April from 2pm - 4pm.
John Robinson, Chair of the Richmond Duck Club, said: “We are very pleased to continue our support of this favourite family event and hope that our donation means that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to take part. We are aware that many families find it difficult to afford trips out especially if they have a number of children to cater for.”
The hunt will be ongoing from 2-4pm and starts from the lay-by next to the allotments on Westfields. Although aimed at the whole family, the event is most suitable for children up to the age of eleven. Refreshments will be on sale.
This is the sixth year that the hunt has been held by the Richmondshire Open Spaces Appeal (ROSA) – the fundraising arm of a charitable Trust that manages a number of pieces of land around the town for community use, including Westfields, Southbank, Sleegill, Jack King’s Wood and the Reeth Road Field.
Event organiser, Gordon Love, said: “We have always tried to keep the entrance fee to the Easter Egg Hunt as cheap as possible – seeing it as a fun event for the community rather than a fundraiser – but the generous donation from the Duck Club means that we can offer tickets at such a low price.”
Tickets are available in advance from the Richmond Tourist Information Centre. They can also be bought on the day at the start of the event but early booking is advised as last year’s event sold out. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
