New Woodland Sculpture (25 May 2010)
Some experimental woodland sculptures can now be found in the woodland at Roundhowe, Richmond.
Chainsaw sculptor, Andris Bergs, has been asked to create the wooden creatures for Richmond Swale Valley Community Initiative (RSVCI) as part of their Woodland Management Plan to develop the leisure potential of the woodland around Richmond.
The sculptures, which are intended to be fun but also to stimulate educational interest from visiting schoolchildren, include badgers, otters, a mole, an owl and a dragon fly.
The project has been funded by local firm CarillionEnterprise and the North Yorkshire County Council delegated fund, with the timber being donated by Zetland Estates.
RSVCI Chairman, John Ward, said. “I am delighted with the high quality of craftsmanship that has gone into producing these sculptures. We were very pleased when the Richmondshire District Council gave their permission for this experimental project.
“As and when more funding can be identified we will be extending this work at Roundhowe wood with more imaginative sculptures.”
