209 Mile Charity Cycle Ride – in one day! (13 July 2010)
Three local cyclists have completed a 209 mile cycle ride in one day to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Father and son, Scott and Arthur Caygill, plus Steve Tarren, all from Richmond, completed the endurance ride in an impressive seventeen hours. The group’s efforts have raised more than £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The route from Richmond to Boot in the Lake District, returning via Tan Hill, was originally devised by Arthur Caygill, who is well known as a champion cyclist in his younger years. Even though the original route included many of the steepest climbs in the area, Scott added extra hills to add to the challenge!
Scott said: “We’ve all trained hard for the ride, around 400 miles per week for the past few months, so we knew that we were able to complete it in time.”
“The weather was kind to us and the whole day was excellent. We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us and contributed to the charity.”
