Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. There is no meeting in August. We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments. We then give out details of any up-coming activities. In addition to the meeting, we have a needlecraft afternoon, a walking group and a Mah Jong evening each month and organise other events as requested by members.
Visitors are welcome without charge for a couple of meetings, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is about. Annual membership for 2018 is £41.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.
The regular Mah Jong evening will take place on Monday 26th March in the Conservative Club in Newbiggin, starting at 7 p.m.
Our April Meeting welcomed Deborah Dryden from Vale of Mowbray Pork Pies, along with 2 colleagues. She started by giving some background information about the firm, before talking about some of their products. We then moved on to the tasting sessions. First we compared one of their pies to one from Melton Mowbray, and then we tried 3 new flavours which are currently being considered for production. Everyone enjoyed the evening and all had their favourite pie.
After refreshments, members were reminded of the Tea Party being organised by Catterick Group, with 10 members thinking of attending. Plans for future outings were on hold as Cynthia could not attend but Pam mentioned the Federation choir which will meet in Newton le Willows to practise, before joining with 2 other choirs who will be practising elsewhere. More detals will follow shortly.
The next meeting will be on Monday 14th May when we will discuss the resolution "Mental Health Matters" which will be brought before the Annual Meeting in Cardiff in June. We will also welcome Daphne Clarke, who will talk about her writing, and read some of her poetry.
