Richmond Women's Institute

Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.  There is no meeting in August.  We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments.  We then give out details of any up-coming activities.

In addition to the  meeting, we have a needlecraft afternoon,  a walking group and a Mah Jong evening each month and organise other events as requested by members.

Visitors are welcome without charge for a couple of meetings, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is about.

Annual membership for 2018 is £41.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.

The regular Mah Jong evening will take place on Monday 22nd January in the Conservative Club in Newbiggin, starting at 7 p.m.

January Meeting

The new committee was introduced with Margaret, Pam, Pauline,Cynthia and Lynne willing to continue and they were joined by new member Jenny.  Margaret has taken over as President, Pauline will become the Secretary and Pam has taken over duties as Treasurer.

The meeting included discussions on the future timing of the meetings to be implemented from 2019, as some members have suggested a change to a daytime WI.  A wide range of opinions were given, and the details will be sent to all members before the February meeting, when a vote will be taken on the subject.

Details of the meal at the Black Lion on 19th February were given, and anyone wishing to join the WI Rock Choir should give their names to Pam as soon as possible.

February Meeting

Our next meeting is on Monday 12th February when Iris and Dennis Smith are given a talk entitled "Under the Mango Tree".  We will have the vote on the timing of our meetings, with WI Adviser Pamela attending to act as teller for the vote.  Final arrangements for the meal will be made.  A volunteer is needed to act as delegate at the Spring Council Meeting at the Pavilions in Harrogate in March.
