The Probus Club movement was formed in the United Kingdom in 1965. Often sponsored by Rotary International, Probus Clubs cater for the interests of retired or semi-retired professional or business people. Each club is autonomous. The movement is now almost world wide.
Probus Club of Richmond
Founded in 1981 to provide facilities for retired and semi-retired professional and business men to meet in fellowship and to maintain social contacts.
Probus Meetings
We meet at 10.15am on the second and fourth Wednesday each month in an informal and cordial atmosphere at the Richmondshire Cricket Club, Richmond. After a short Club business meeting, a high standard of guest speakers provide talks on a wide variety of subjects. Usually, between thirty and forty members attend the meetings and afterwards enjoy a drink and inexpensive lunch provided by the Cricket Club.
Membership
The sixty plus members range in age from late fifties to upper eighties, and enjoy the opportunity to meet friends of similar age. At Christmas and in the Spring (March), we hold a lunch to which wives and other non-members are invited.
Additional outside visits to places of special interest are arranged and when possible these are open to family, non members and friends.
The Committee, comprising all the officials, holds periodic management meetings to ensure the smooth running of the Club.
