The Society is privileged to perform in the Georgian Theatre Royal for three major productions a year, and is committed to providing entertainment of the highest possible standard.
We own our own property at 6-8 Castle Hill, and this building provides the perfect rehearsal space, as well as storage rooms for our sets, properties and costumes. It is also ideal for workshops, after-show suppers and our regular fun social evenings.
The main thrust of the Society and its members is to put on plays! We try to vary our programme as much as possible, to encompass all strands of drama. We are always willing to try ambitious projects.
Our members turn out in all weathers to rehearse, build sets, make costumes - and coffee - and props, so that when a production goes to the Theatre, it is as polished as we can make it.
We welcome new talent - no experience is necessary, and support and opportunities to develop will be given. On the second Monday of each month we hold a ‘social evening’. These vary in content from month to month, but are usually fun and give members the chance to chat and ‘catch up’ - not always possible during rehearsals!
RADS is a registered charity, and each year makes donations to charities proposed by the membership.

TAKING STEPS by Alan Ayckbourn.
Venue: The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, North Yorkshire
12 to 14th November 2009
Elizabeth, who is about to leave husband Roland, has summoned her brother Mark to comfort Roland when, on his return from work, he will read her farewell note. Mark, however, has other preoccupations – his fiancée Kitty abandoned him at the altar and she has just been released from police custody after being suspected of soliciting on the streets. Tristram, a solicitor, arrives to complete the documentation for the sale of the house to Roland by Leslie. Roland also wishes Leslie, who is a builder, to do repairs and alterations to the building which was once a high class brothel and is rumoured to be haunted by one of the prostitutes! In the course of one hectic night and morning, with continual running up and down stairs, these characters try to ‘take steps’ to sort themselves out!.Presented by Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
