Richmond Community - Richmond Walking & Book Festival • 24 Sept - 4 Oct 2010

One of the friendliest, interesting and fun festivals around!
Richmond in North Yorkshire is one of Britain’s best kept secrets, a beautiful Georgian Market Town complete with river, castle, large cobbled market place, surrounded by the hills of Swaledale and miles of dry stone walls. Located in the centre of mainland Britain it is a favourite stopping point on Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast walk recently voted “second best walk in the world”.
Richmond has been a favourite base for walkers and visitors for centuries and it is ideally placed close to the A1 north south, the A66 east west, Darlington East Coast main line railway station and Teesside Airport.
The Book Festival runs alongside the Walking Festival – so there will be plenty of things to do in the evenings plus alternative events during the day. Previous festivals have included Rt Hon William Hague, Chris Bonnington, Ruth Rendell, Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson and many others.
Enjoy 35 guided walks through Swaledale & Wensleydale, including 11 new walks for 2010.- Complete the Wensleydale Chain, a series of six circular walks starting at Hawes and walking down the Dale.
- Discover the historic delights of Richmond, voted National Great Town of the Year 2009, with its Norman Castle, Georgian Theatre, impressive Market Place, fast flowing river and spectacular setting.
- Savour short guided walks round the town and castle, ghost walks, woodland strolls and Turner's Richmond.
- Relax with music, talks, slide shows and films. In the Book Festival we have writers, authors, poets and performers.
- Sample local produce including ale, cheese, breads, boots and ice-cream, many of them at The Station which also offers food, films, exhibitions & wi-fi from 9am to 11pm.
We look forward to welcoming you to beautiful Swaledale and Richmond
