Carducci Quartet
Venue: Influence Church, Victoria Road
Time: 19:30
The Carducci are always a huge hit with our audiences - superb musicians, and one of the finest string quartets around.

Haydn String Quartet Op. 20, No. 4
Glass String Quartet No. 2
Shostakovich String Quartet No. 11
----------
Webern Langsamer Satz
Beethoven String Quartet Op. 95

How many times have we had the Carducci Quartet? We think this must be their sixth visit to Richmond, and they are always a huge hit with our audiences. Superb musicians, personable, with an exceptional rapport, they are one of the finest string quartets around.

Tonight the Carduccis perform a generously proportioned concert. It includes a much-loved Haydn piece, one of the very first 'modern' string quartets, and Webern's highly charged Langsamer Satz, described as a "little masterpiece". Composed in 1905, Langsamer Satz was never publicly performed - astonishingly - until 1962, just a few years before Shostakovich's very different, very intense Quartet No. 11. The piece by Philip Glass is a companion to his Third Quartet, which the Carduccis performed in Richmond a few years ago, and which gave our audience such pleasure.

What a wonderful close to the 2016-17 Richmondshire Concerts season.

Being Brel
Venue: The Georgian Theatre Royal
Time: 7.30pm
A tribute to Jacques Brel - one of history's greatest lyricists and performers.

His songs portrayed passion and depth; sometimes scathing, ironic, hopeful, desperate, sorrowful, cruel, bitter, playful, mocking, tender or reeling from one emotion to the next.

Presented by Nick O’Connor, Being Brel is a multi-layered production, which celebrates the life and chansons of Jacques Brel. This live and passionate performance of Brel's songs (sung in English, French and Flemish) is interwoven with projected imagery, monologue and a narrative based on interviews and research of Brel's complex life.

A theatre piece not to be missed – whether you’re a Brel aficionado or discovering his work for the first time.

Tickets £13 (includes £1 restoration levy).

Burton

Rhodri Mills (Game of Thrones, Eastern Promises and Atlantis) takes on the role of this icon in a show that received great critical acclaim at two Edinburgh Fringe Festivals (2009/2014) and also the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2010, where the play won 'Best International Show’.

Edinburgh Guide
