Simon Evans : Genius
Venue: The Georgian Theatre Royal
Time: 7.30pm
An evening with popular comedian Simon Evans who regularly appears on Radio 4, includuing The News Quiz and The Unbelievable Truth.

Ever since he was a small boy, all Simon Evans really wanted was to be recognised by the world as a man of genius. He has, until now, remained thwarted. The world seems increasingly indifferent to true genius of any kind, let alone Evans'.

Endlessly distracted by the trivial, we allow the classical tools of grammar, logic and rhetoric to lie unregarded in the shed of consciousness, rusting to a picturesque hue that would actually look really great on Instagram. But which filter? Hmmm…

“Super-sharp wit” - Time Out

***** “A masterclass in socio-political comedy…The Show is called Genius. It comes very close” - The Scotsman

Tickets cost £15 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service.

Saturday, 12th May 2018 - Wednesday, 23rd May 2018
Boats and Planes...but mainly Trains!
Venue: The Station
A collection of oil on canvas paintings and photographs of scenes from the Age of Steam on British Railways in the 1950s and 60s.

Ted Parker captures the harsh grittiness of the final years of run down steam locomotives, the atmosphere of smoke filled locomotive sheds and stations with decades of grime encrusted infrastructure.

He has also included some of his sailing and aviation subjects, but the real challenge is capturing the allure of the steam locomotive, often in situations and conditions which would have been impossible to capture on film.

A must see for any transport fan!

Heritage Opera, Northwest England’s professional touring opera company, returns to Richmond with Puccini's best-loved opera.

It charts the love affair of Rodolfo, a writer, and Mimi, his neighbour, as they eke out a living on the breadline. Life is harsh, and they soon find that you need more than passion to survive. Opera doesn't get more romantic than this!

Manchester-based Heritage Opera has been touring chamber versions of well-loved operas for ten years.

“…this production was full of sincerity and atmosphere... the acting was top-drawer…a veritable triumph.” - Michael Cookson, Seen and Heard International 2016

Sung in English, accompanied by piano.

My Fair Lady
Venue: The Georgian Theatre Royal
Time: 19:30 - 22:00
Richmond Operatic Society presents this all time favourite!

My Fair Lady, based on George Bernard Shaw’s classic play Pygmalion, tells the familiar story of Eliza Doolittle. Eliza is a Covent Garden flower seller who, inspired by phonetician Henry Higgins’ public boast that he could change her social status by teaching her how to speak correctly, turns up at his door asking for lessons in order to fulfil her dream of working in a flower shop. However, Eliza eventually succeeds so well that she outgrows her lowly ambitions, and manages to become an indispensable part of Higgins’ life.

The original 1956 production of My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews helped define the modern musical theatre. The original production enjoyed a seven-year run on Broadway leading to the 1964 film (starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn), which won several Oscars, including Best Picture.

Its classic musical numbers include “With A Little Bit of Luck”, "Wouldn't it be Loverly?", “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “On the Street Where You Live” and “Get Me to the Church on Time”.
