27 Local Crafts People Set Up Stall At The Station
An active group of talented crafts people are to set up stall for one day only at The Station this weekend.

Makers of original hand crafted gifts made in studios around Richmondshire and the Dales are to bring their wares to The Station on Sunday 4 November from 10am-4pm for what promises to be an arts and crafts extravaganza.

In total, 27 different stalls will feature quality but affordable arts and crafts including handmade jewellery, ceramics, decorative woodwork, felt bags, and contemporary knitted garments. There will also be an unusual mix of textiles – both functional items and ornamental pieces – and small original artworks and photography.

According to Station Manager, Laura Hannaway, the aim of the day is to offer a showcase for the region’s many talented craft workers at a time of year when people are on the lookout for novel, but affordable, gift ideas: ‘We are all turning our minds towards Christmas shopping at this time of year and the Arts and Crafts Fair will have some perfect gift ideas. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Station’s charitable trust responsible for funding the upkeep of The Station building and the numerous community activities taking place within it.’

One such community group based at The Station, The Station Knitters, will also be at the Fair, demonstrating their knitting skills and offering advice to beginners. The group meets twice a month on a drop-in basis at The Station and members have recently made 150 knitted hats for soldiers in Afghanistan.

‘The Station Knitters did an amazing job to produce so many hats in such a short time and are one of many examples of the active community groups here at The Station,’ said Laura Hannaway. ‘They are looking forward to meeting the public and possibly recruit some new members.’

The Arts and Craft Fair is on Sunday 4 November from 10am-4pm and entry is free. As well as The Station charity, the Fair is also being run in support of two local causes, TRY and The Beacon, and The British Legion. Representatives from these charities will also be present on the day.
