Richmond Rotarians Open Best Kept Village Competition
Wednesday, Jun 5, 2013
Richmond Rotary Club have announced the opening of their annual Richmondshire Best Kept Village Competition for 2013.
The competition this year is open to all villages with less than 1000 population. Judging will take place in the first 2 weeks of July. A prize of £500 will go the village that is considered by a panel of judges to be looked after the best.
So far the club has had applications from the following villages - Ravensworth, Moulton, Hudswell, Middleton Tyas, Carlton, Coverdale, Skeeby, Carperby, Caldwell, Grinton, Stapleton, Cleasby, West Burton, Barton, Bellerby and Spennithorne.
The villages will receive points for all aspects that reflect a concern for the environment including flower beds, well maintained areas and low litter for example. The prize doesn’t reflect the nature of the housing but the efforts by villagers to look after their villages.
“We are really pleased to be able to contribute to improving the quality of life in our attractive rural hinterland,” said Rotary Club President Mac Bryant. “Although a modest prize, the target helps crystallise communal efforts and ensures we have showcase villages throughout the area.”
The winning village will be announced in August and will be able to spend the prize money on whatever the villagers see fit.
