Richmond Church Serves Community with No Strings Action
Wednesday, Jun 19, 2013
Last Saturday (June 15th) volunteers from Influence Church took to the streets of Richmond, Catterick and Barnard Castle for a day of community action called ‘No Strings’.
The projects, organised by senior ministers Ben & Gale Dowding, saw many volunteers undertaking a variety of projects across the area with the aim of serving the community with ‘no strings attached’.
Influence Church has been running projects under the banner of ‘No Strings’ for over 8 years. Over that time they have completed hundreds of community projects including gardening, litter picking, graffiti cleaning, repairing & painting bus stops, transforming children's play parks, community bbqs, serving local schools and much more, in Richmond, Catterick, Colburn and Barnard Castle.
Senior Pastor Ben Dowding said: “Because we’ve been running these projects for years now, it’s fantastic to see the lasting effects from the time people have given up to serve our community. Every year it’s great to see such diversity of people and ages all going out to work together to show some love to our town and area. It’s a brilliant picture of the modern church in action!
"We believe in faith not just being something we talk about but something we put into action. No Strings is just an expression of that in the communities that we love being part of.”
Over the one day event this year a total of 138 volunteers got involved with ages ranging from 4 years old to 70 years old! The volunteers worked on a wide variety of projects including graffiti cleaning, litter picking, repairing & painting children's play-parks, painting bus shelters, serving 3 local schools, clearing alleyways and sanding & staining public benches.
The volunteers also gave away hundreds of free gifts to members of the public including free flowers, chocolates and balloons.
Across all the locations the volunteers collected, picked and swept up 189 bags of rubbish, litter & waste!
Influence Church hold their Sunday ‘Main Event’ service at 11am each week at the Church building on Victoria Road, as well as an evening service each week in Barnard Castle at 5pm. They also have many other programs and events happening each week for all ages.
