Charlie the Horse to Star in Georgian Theatre Royal Panto
Wednesday, Aug 28, 2013
The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond has a new star for their panto this year, and not one that you would expect. The image of a panto horse conjures up thoughts of two people inside a costume - but not for the Georgian Theatre, as their star this year is a real Shetland Pony!
Charlie will be taking on the important role of pulling Cinderella’s carriage and most likely stealing the show! Charlie is a 6 year old pure bred Shetland with a personality larger than himself.
On Saturday Charlie took to the market place in Richmond to meet the locals and prepare for his big role. "He needs to spend some time around large crowds and noise to prepare for his role and on Saturday he handled it like a pro", said theatre spokesperson, Beki Harrison. "He even got a trip to local fruit and veg shop, Parker’s; for a carroty treat!"
Theatre staff accompanied the panto star around Richmond market place offering discounts on Cinderella tickets and balloon animals to children.
Cinderella will be part of a very special year at the Georgian which sees the theatre celebrate a trio of anniversaries. It is 225 years since the creation of the theatre by Samuel Butler in 1788. 50 years since the fully restored Georgian Theatre re-opened in 1963 and 10 years since the further restoration and new building extension completed in 2003.
Cinderella will run at the Georgian Theatre Royal from Saturday 7th December 2013 to Sunday 5th January 2014. Tickets can be booked through the box office on 01748 825252 or through the Georgian Theatre Royal’s website at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
