A luxury holiday destination on the outskirts of Richmond in North Yorkshire is celebrating after winning in the Best Self Catering category at the UK’s biggest tourism awards.
Judges praised Brompton Lakes as ‘special’ and ‘unique’ at the prestigious White Rose Awards ceremony, which was attended by nearly 1,000 people at New Dock Hall in Leeds. Set around two lakes and bordered by the River Swale, the eco-development has twenty individual waterside lodges, each with three bedrooms.
Founder, Roy Stephenson, collected the award with his son, William, who is also now working in the business. “I started Brompton Lakes with a simple idea – to create top-quality, relaxing, year-round holiday accommodation that complemented the beautiful surroundings here. The whole team shares my passion and everyone is thrilled to have been recognised amongst such stiff competition. We’re looking forward to welcoming even more guests to our very special part of Yorkshire in the future,” Roy said.
The tennis court, barbecue house and quality of internal design and décor were among the things that gave Brompton Lakes the ‘wow factor’ according to White Rose Award judges. Opened in 2008, Brompton Lakes has been granted 5* Gold status from Visit Britain and has also been awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 2013.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "The level of entries this year was nothing short of outstanding, so to make the shortlist was a huge achievement. For them to go on and win one of our famous awards is a huge achievement. It is recognition for their tireless hard work and going that extra mile to help raise the bar nationally."
