Parish Councils and community groups across Richmondshire still have time to have a share of a £20,000 cash boost to help with the arrival of this year’s visit by the Tour de France
Richmondshire District Council set up a new ‘Tour De France’ fund five months ago to help support the many activities being planned across the district to make the Grand Depart event the very best spectator experience on July 5, 2014.
“This is a simple to apply for fund to help our communities prepare for what the biggest is worldwide sporting event ever to hit our district,” said Councillor John Blackie, Leader of the Council.
“So far we have only allocated £4,700 by supporting the hire of a large screen in Bainbridge, contributed towards events at Muker and Middleham, the hiring of portaloos at Burton-cum-Walden, Melbecks and Aysgarth, banner and marquee for East Witton and St Matthews Church, Leyburn and St Andrew’s Church, Aysgarth for their flower festivals.
“The grant is for a maximum of £500 and the scheme is open to all parishes in Richmondshire, irrespective of location, as the Council recognises that whilst the route is through 48 miles of Richmondshire, it is likely to impact on the whole of the District.”
Funds will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
