“Richmond Tri Kudu” - New Triathlon Club in Richmond
Friday, Oct 14, 2011
A new triathlon club has been set up in Richmond with the assistance of Richmondshire Leisure Trust and specialist triathlon equipment suppliers, Tri Kudu.
Triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the UK and it is expected to become even more popular during the Olympics in 2012. A group of experienced triathletes approached the Richmondshire Leisure Trust (RLT) primarily to ask for some specialist swimming coaching and found that the Trust had plans to develop participation in triathlons with the local community.
Paul Taylor, a local triathlete, is enthusiastic about the new club: "We have a group of about twelve triathletes who compete regularly in the U.K. and abroad, and we were looking to set up some regular swimming training for the winter. When we approached the RLT, they were eager to help.
"It soon became obvious that they have the facilities and the trained coaches, and we have the people, so it was an easy step to form the new club. Most of us buy our kit from Tri Kudu and they have agreed to support us by supplying the new club."
It is hoped that by forming a new club people will try out the sport with the confidence of experienced coaches supporting them. The RLT have a selection of cycles that may be used by beginners to the sport. Swimming training sessions have been arranged at Richmond Pool on Monday evenings at 19:00 to 20:00 and further sessions will be announced soon.
