International Concert Stars Sing For Local Charity
International opera stars – Graeme Danby and Valerie Reid – will leave behind the glitz of La Scala and the Royal Opera House to perform a special concert at The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond next month in aid of a local children’s charity.

Midsummer Music will take place on Saturday 7 June at 7.30pm and celebrates the wit and musical talents of artists such as Tom Lehrer, Noel Coward, Flanders & Swann and Gilbert & Sullivan.

The event will raise funds for ‘We Can Dance’ – a charity that supports music and dance projects for children with special educational needs. Local schools that have recently been supported by the charity include the special needs wing of Darlington’s Educational Village; Abbey Hill School at Stockton on Tees and Priory Woods School in Middlesbrough.

Although Graeme Danby and Valerie Reid have an established international profile both singers have a strong connection to the region. Graeme was born in Consett, County Durham and Valerie Reid is a vocal tutor at The University of Sunderland. The pair has a long-standing musical relationship which includes the release of popular CDs There’s More to Life and Take Me Up The Tyne.

Graeme Danby has a long association with English National Opera and is regularly heard at Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Festival, Teatro de Liceau in Barcelona and recently at La Scala, Milano. He has made many radio and television performances – including live broadcasts at the BBC Proms – and is well-known on the popular ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ on Radio 2.

Valerie Reid has sung with English National Opera and Scottish Opera and given performances at concerts all over the world, including St Petersburg, Monte Carlo, Geneva, Salzburg, Turin, Canada and Hong Kong.

Tickets for Midsummer Music cost from £7 to £20 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or by visiting www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
