New ‘Poetry And Pints’ Season Gets Underway With Prize-Winning Poet
Thursday, Jan 22, 2015
One of the region’s leading poets will be starting this year’s ‘Poetry and Pints’ season at The Georgian Theatre Royal with an informal reading of his work on Monday 2 February at 7.30pm
Antony Dunn has published three highly acclaimed collections of poems Pilots and Navigators (Oxford University Press), Flying Fish (Carcanet OxfordPoets) and Bugs (Carcanet OxfordPoets) and has had work commissioned by the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. He is also a winner of Oxford University’s Newdigate Prize – other recipients have included Oscar Wilde and John Ruskin – and the prestigious Eric Gregory Award given by the Society of Authors.
Based in Leeds, Antony is a regular tutor for The Poetry School and the Arvon Foundation and has been Poet in Residence at the University of York and the Ilkley Literature Festival. He also writes for the stage and his plays include Dog Blue, Goose Chase and Shepherds’ Delight.
Poetry and Pints was introduced by the Georgian Theatre Royal to enable people to listen to an invited published poet in an informal setting whilst relaxing over a drink. There is always the chance to participate and the audience is encouraged to bring along their own work if they wish.
The evenings are free of charge and held on the first Monday of each month in the Theatre Bar.
Other poets in the forthcoming season include Oz Hardwick, Keith Armstrong, Lyndsay Balderson, Annie Wright and Katherine Crocker.
