Leading Financiers Back World-Class Musical Performance
Two of the region’s leading financial service providers are supporting a concert at The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond later this month that will showcase three world-class musicians in a special concert of Elizabethan and Jacobean music.

Like as the Lute Delights on Friday 27 February at 7.30pm features the English soprano Dame Emma Kirkby – one of the world’s most renowned early music specialists – who will be accompanied by leading instrumentalists Jacob Heringman (lute) and Susanna Pell (viol).

The concert is being sponsored by Gale and Phillipson – a Richmond-based financial planning and investment management services specialist – and the Darlington branch of the Swedish bank, Handelsbanken.

“It is a great privilege to be part of this prestigious event,” said Terry Davies of Gale and Phillipson. “Dame Emma Kirkby is universally acknowledged as the queen of English lute song and it is fantastic that we are able to play a part in bringing performers of this international calibre to Richmond.”

Mike Airey, Branch Manager of Handelsbanken in Darlington added: “We are extremely proud to be co-sponsors of this concert and to add our name to a long tradition of businesses that support the local arts. Performances like this enrich our community and it is very good to have this event taking place on our doorstep.”

Like as the Lute Delights will feature a passionate and eloquent recital of some of the best-loved songs of the Golden Age of Elizabethan and Jacobean music, including compositions by John Dowland, Thomas Campion, John Danyel and others.

Dame Emma Kirkby has sung on well over a hundred recordings, and as well as the DBE was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music – given to an individual who has had a major influence on the musical life of the nation. American-born lutenist Jacob Heringman has been based in England since 1987 and is one of the world’s most respected and most innovative solo lute players. He performs regularly throughout Europe and North America and has many recordings of Medieval and Renaissance music to his name. Susanna Pell has an international reputation for her viol playing and has performed on the soundtracks of several films including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and The Da Vinci Code. She also appeared on Kate Bush’s 2005 release Aerial.

The Georgian Theatre Royal welcomes corporate sponsorship and offers a number of exclusive entertainment packages for businesses.

Tickets for Like as the Lute Delights cost from £12 to £25 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
