The cello is described as Britain’s favourite classical instrument with good reason: it can soar like a bird, rumble like an earthquake, sing or snarl.
Now imagine eight cellos - yes, eight! - playing together and taking on the range of sounds of a full orchestra. The effect is simply amazing.
The internationally famous group Cellophony is coming to Richmond, to play works by Schubert, Bach, Handel and Ravel, and will be joined by soprano Jennifer Witton for Villa-Lobos’s Bachiana Brasileira No. 5 and Rachmaninov’s achingly beautiful Vocalise.
The event, part of the Richmondshire concert season, is at the Influence Church on Victoria Road in Richmond, at 7:30 pm on Saturday 21 March. Tickets are £13, online from rsconcerts.org, or at the door (subject to availability).
