Richmond Girlguiding Globetrotter Bound For Belfast
A Guide from Richmond is bound for Belfast where she will take part in her first ever Girlguiding social action project.

Emma Arnold, from 1st Richmond Guides, is part of a group of ten Guides aged 10-14 from across the North East selected to visit Belfast from 16-21 August. The group will volunteer in the local community - visiting a food bank, working with children at a bird sanctuary and gardening at the Ulster Transport Museum.

The Guides have challenged themselves to complete at least ten hours of volunteering each during their trip. They’ve also been busy fundraising ahead of their adventure.

Emma, 12, has prepared for the trip by taking part in a briefing weekend where they learned about international development, completing the Guides ‘Globaltastic’ badge.

Emma said: “I have prepared for this trip by baking and selling cakes at my local church and selling my old toys at a car boot sale.

“At first I was nervous for the trip because I didn't know anyone, but I have enjoyed meeting new people and I'm having an amazing experience.

“I'm looking forward to helping people in the community”.

The trip is part of Girlguiding North East England’s international opportunities programme which offers international adventures to young women aged 10-14 each year.

Every year, Girlguiding sends hundreds of young women on international trips across the globe – empowering them to take part in vital community development work, explore new cultures and develop their sense of adventure.
