Two local businesses have joined forces to revive a 60-year-old Christmas pudding recipe.
Jefferson’s, Richmond based specialist grocer, has joined up with the Richmond Brewing Company to revive a 1953 Christmas pudding recipe from Brompton-on-Swale.
Gary Jefferson found the recipe in an old Yorkshire Women’s Institute cookbook.
He said: “I tried the recipe last year on family and friends and it was very successful. It’s a light pudding with a high fruit content.
“The strange thing was that the pudding didn’t contain any alcohol, and the only liquid used in the recipe was milk, so I substituted the milk with beer.
“Since opening our shop in May this year we have tried to stock as much local food as possible so I contacted Andy Hamilton at The Station based brewery and found that they were keen to supply the beer.”
Mr Hamilton said: “When Jefferson’s contacted us we liked the idea of their using our beer so we were happy to help. It’s a truly local pudding.”
Suitable for vegetarians, and with gluten and nut free options, the puddings are available at the ‘Festive Food & Gift Fair’ at The Station, Richmond on 26th & 27th November, and at Jefferson’s Grocer Shop in Richmond’s Market Place.
