The Old Mill, Skeeby
Owners of The Old Mill residential centre in Skeeby, just outside Richmond, have teamed up with Cheshire-based Swift to develop a purpose-built performing arts studio to benefit community groups and charities.
The rural retreat – a popular holiday destination and residential centre – was launched in 2008 by Barbara and Mick Sutcliffe-Cole and sleeps up to 20.
Luxury garden room and commercial building specialist, Swift, is working with the couple on a brief to develop a £200,000, 90m sq arts studio with stone cladding, conservation roof lights and external decking.
The studio, set to launch in March 2012, will see the realisation of a dream Barbara and Mick have always had to support charities, community and disadvantaged groups with a dedicated arts facility and on-hand expertise for productions and musical, cultural and arts projects.
Set in 6 acres of rolling Yorkshire countryside, The Old Mill performing arts studio will be project managed by Swift founder, Martin Lawson, whose specialist construction process will mean minimum disruption to the site and a projected build schedule of only six to eight weeks.
Commenting on the project, Martin said: “We are thrilled to be working on a project that offers an invaluable creative resource for the community. The Swift team is working closely with Barbara and Mick to ensure the studio is sensitively developed to offer a state-of-the-art facility that complements such an idyllic setting.”
Barbara added: “As a trained music teacher and performing arts enthusiast, this is an incredible opportunity to give something back to the community, to enable people to build confidence and have some fun in a purpose-built creative setting.
“We’ve already had a lot of interest from a range of community groups and charities keen to benefit from the resource and are extremely excited about developing bespoke courses to meet individual needs.”
