Major developments for the Richmondshire Local History Museum’s 2012 season
The Fenwick Shop
During the closed winter period the Richmondshire Local History Museum has undertaken some new and exciting developments for the new Season.

This year the entrance and shop area have been restyled to improve the welcome to visitors, incorporating an interesting new entrance gallery containing a new Discovering Richmond exhibition with displays of discoveries and research. The Fenwick shop exhibit has also undergone structural alterations to make the shop reconstruction more realistic. These improvements have only been possible due to the kind donations from friends and supporters or the Museum.

Work has also started on the exciting new Heritage Lottery funded, Discovery Centre and Ironmongers shop exhibit. The work will be on going whilst the Museum is open but all galleries will remain open and visitors should not be inconvenienced by the activity on this important and exciting project.

The new Discovery Centre is due to be opened at the end of the summer and once opened the Museum will host workshops for schools and groups.

On 21st March the Museum is holding an open evening for Museum Volunteers and for those interested in becoming a volunteer. The evening is hosted at Richmond Town Hall at 7pm where there will be an opportunity to hear all about the major developments that have taken place and those that are in progress for the 2012 season. The Museum is evolving all the time and Volunteers can play an invaluable part in these developments. Tea/Coffee and biscuits will be available and there is no charge for the evening.

New Volunteers are always welcome

The Discovery Centre project funded by the Heritage Lottery Grant allows the Museum to accept new volunteers. The Museum is particularly keen to attract those with an interest in conservation work, public relations and publicity as well as Museum Stewards who host the Museum to visitors during opening. The funding allows for training to be given to those keen to join the existing team and take the Museum into the future. Please contact the Museum if this interests you (call in if you wish we will be pleased to see you!).
