A Trio Of Family Fun At The Georgian Theatre Royal
Wednesday - September 21, 2016
Families are in for a treat over the next month as The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond presents three fabulous shows designed to introduce young children to the delights of live theatre.
First on stage is Cardboard Joe and The Book of Mysteries on Saturday 24 September at 2pm. This new, fun-filled family show is the result of a partnership between the Small Venues Network (SVN) and 154 Collective. SVN is a group of 11 theatres in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire – that includes Richmond’s historic venue – who have been working together since 2012 to bring some of the boldest and brightest theatre, music and literature events to the region.
Last year they put a call out for a company that would excite and engage the very youngest audiences. The result is Cardboard Joe – a show for children aged 3+ and their families that combines music, theatre and boundary-pushing live animation technologies.
Created by 154 Collective, an international group of writers, painters, filmmakers, musicians and artists, it follows the adventures of thicker-than-paper but thinner-than-wood hero Joe and his friends. Every show will be different as the young audience and Joe make up the story together; then they will get to see all their ideas brought to life using real-time live animation.
The second event is Penguin! Elephant! on Sunday 2 October at 2pm. With original songs, hilarious physical comedy and dance, this new show from Goblin Theatre Company is about celebrating differences. It includes a rap about fish fingers, some food-based mess and a magical balloon ride that will have children aged 3 and upwards jumping for joy.
Last of the trio is Little Frankenstein on Saturday 22 October at 2pm. This little horror for little horrors from Lempen Puppet Theatre Company will tickle the imagination of everyone from 5 years and above. Taking inspiration from the scientist Dr Frankenstein, puppeteer Frank Stein - with the help of the audience - creates a new, real-life puppet that is destined to change his life forever.
“It is never too soon to introduce children to the magic of theatre and we wanted to include some shows in our Autumn programme that would appeal to the younger age group,” said Clare Allen, Chief Executive of The Georgian Theatre Royal. “These three shows are exciting and entertaining and will encourage the audience to join in and let their imaginations run wild!”
Tickets for all three shows are £10 each (includes £1 restoration levy) and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service at: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
