Richard Burton Unveiled In Sensational Award-Winning Drama
Thursday - March 23, 2017
The fascinating life of one of the greatest actors of the 20th century will be revealed in an award-winning production at The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, on Saturday 15 April at 7.30pm.

Burton charts the rise of the famous actor from his humble beginnings (the twelfth of thirteen children born to a Welsh coal miner) to Hollywood mega-stardom. Beautiful women, alcoholism and a wildly excessive lifestyle are all woven into this sad, happy, exuberant one-man show.

Written by Gwynne Edwards and directed by Gareth Armstrong, the show uses Richard Burton’s own words to portray a man that had a melancholic, self-deprecating yet often hilarious take on life. It culminates in the acrimonious first divorce from actress Elizabeth Taylor, with whom he was so inextricably linked, and reveals much about his often turbulent life both on and off stage and screen.

The solo role will be taken by leading Welsh actor Rhodri Miles (Game of Thrones, Torchwood and Eastern Promises) who was born in Pontarddulais - just six miles away from Burton's birthplace. His theatre credits include Othello for The Sheffield Crucible Theatre, Pride and Prejudice and Fish Out of Water for Bristol Old Vic and an award-winning tour of Dylan Thomas’ Clown in the Moon.

"I've always wanted to play Richard Burton. He was a great thespian actor, an alcoholic womaniser who often said that his natural disposition to the Celtic gloom was caused by the mist in the hills and the black in the coal, all of it seeping into his very being,” he said.
Burton has received great critical acclaim at two Edinburgh Fringe Festivals (2009/2014) and won Best International Show at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in in 2010.

Tickets from £11 to £16 are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service at: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
