Free Antiques Event At Richmond’s Historic Station
Friday - April 28, 2017
Experts from one of the region’s leading auction houses will be offering free valuations and advice at an antiques roadshow-style event to be held at The Station in Richmond on Friday 5 May between 10.00am and 3.00pm

Hosted by Thomas Watsons of Darlington, this drop-in event provides an informal opportunity to find out more about a whole range of contemporary or antique objects, including silver, ceramics, glass, pictures, sculpture or other collectables. No appointments are necessary.

“Many people have things tucked away at home that have been passed down through the family or have been picked up in an antiques shop or sale. It’s always fascinating to find out more about them and, of course, discover how much they are worth,” said auctioneer and valuer David Elstob.

“Market trends also change and values fluctuate, so what may have been picked up quite cheaply a few years ago could be worth an awful lot more now. For instance, Chinese items are very popular at the moment and quality jewellery is reaching very good prices.

“Fashion and popular tastes also influence the market. At Thomas Watson’s most recent sale, a group of boxed Game of Thrones figures sold for three times their price estimate and some Star Wars memorabilia also did extremely well. So, even having a clear-out of the kid’s old belongings can be very worthwhile!” he added.

All valuations made on the day are free and without obligation but anyone wishing to sell an item will be given the option to have it included in the next suitable sale. Estimates given at the valuation event will be used as a guide price at auction but reserves can be put in place so if a piece doesn’t reach the desired amount then it doesn’t have to be sold, making it a totally risk-free process for the seller.

General Antiques and Collectables Sales are held fortnightly and the next quarterly Fine Art Catalogue Sale takes place on 20 June.
