International Touring Choir To Perform In Richmond
Tuesday - February 6, 2018
Masterworks Chorale, an international touring choir from Leeds will be visiting the wonderful market town of Richmond. This will be their first event of this year, after a very successful international tour in October to Liechtenstein, Vaduz.
The theme for the international tours are to take the music of a composer back “home” and the last tour was taking the music of Josef Rheinberger back to his birth place of Vaduz where we performed in Vaduz Cathedral. The present-day cathedral is next to Rheinberger’s family home and stands near to where the original church was, where he played the organ as a young boy.
There were some surprising members of the audience; for the first performance we were very pleased to welcome Rheinberger’s great great granddaughter and then for the Sunday Mass we sang in presence of royalty the crowned Prince and Princess of Liechtenstein.
So now we look forward to our next event at St Mary’s Church, Richmond. This is the fourth of our Northern Lights concerts based at venues around the North of England featuring a range of traditional and classical music from composers from the North. This includes Scottish songs from Hutchings, Thou art the vine from Andrew Carter a local composer from York who turns 80 next year, as well as one of our favourites from Vaduz Rheinberger’s Abenlied as well as our own musical director Tim Knight’s Benedicite.
It promises to be a fine evening presented in our fresh and distinctive style suitable for seasoned concert goers to newcomers on Saturday 10th March at 7:30pm, St Mary’s Church, Richmond, DL10 7AQ.
