A traditional family Easter egg hunt is taking place on Saturday 31 March on the historic Westfield pastures in Richmond.
The popular family event is organised by local land charity, The Richmondshire Landscape Trust (ROSA), and is a firm favourite with families with well over two hundred people taking part each year.
The event will be ongoing from 2pm to 4pm and starts from the lay-by next to the allotments on Westfields. Each participant will receive a boxed chocolate egg when they complete the trail, which is included in the ticket cost of £3.00. Light refreshments will be available.
Another local charity, the Richmond Duck Club, is generously sponsoring the event so that entry costs can be kept to a minimum to enable as many people as possible to take part.
Event organiser, Veronica Robson, said: “The ROSA Family Easter Egg Hunt has become a firm fixture in the town’s social calendar and we have many people returning year after year. This is the fourteenth year that we have run the event and the feedback we receive is that it is a much-loved and fun part of many families’ Easter celebrations.
“We are hoping that the weather will be kind to us on the day but we aim for the event to go ahead regardless, whether it’s rain, hail or snow! ” she added.
The hunt was one of the first fundraising events held by ROSA – the fundraising arm of the Richmondshire Landscape Trust – when it was set up to raise money to buy a number of pieces of land under threat. The charity now owns and manages a number of pieces of land around the town for community use and still fundraises to maintain and enhance the different areas in its care.
Westfields is a large area of undulating pasture land that has spectacular views across the town towards the castle and was originally part of Richmond’s medieval three-field system.
Tickets are available in advance by emailing email@example.com or can be bought on the day at the start of the event. Previous years’ events have been very popular so people buying tickets on the day are advised to arrive at the event early to avoid disappointment. Any uncollected reserved tickets will be sold after 2.45pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
