Italian Quartet Offer Exciting Musical Rollercoaster Ride
Thursday - May 31, 2018
Four young Italian musicians will take centre stage at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday 16 June for a concert that promises to be rather different!

Decostruttori Postmodernisti (or DP if you prefer) will be performing well-known contemporary and classic pieces in the most unlikely way imaginable using a huge array of instruments, including the piano, violin, viola, cello, ukulele, melodica, kazoo, bird whistle and slide whistle, and sometimes all in the same piece.

Perhaps their most sonically distinguishing feature is the Theremin, one of the world’s first completely electronic instruments developed in Soviet Russia in the 1920s. Two things make it unique – its very distinctive sound, and the way that the sound is controlled by the player who glides around the instrument without even touching it.

DP’s Richmond show, In the Beginning Was the Sound is an informal and entertaining rollercoaster ride through the history of music - starting with Stravinsky, diving back to the Medieval period, motoring with Mozart (ignoring Beethoven) and ending with the Bee Gees. Whatever the period or the genre, the compositions will feature inventive and often quite unexpected arrangements.

“We are looking forward to an extremely entertaining evening that will appeal to both die-hard music lovers and those who barely know the originals,” said Clare Allen, Chief Executive of The Georgian Theatre Royal. “DP are quite unlike anything else. They blend sharp technical skills with the verve of cabaret and are almost equal parts serious and silly. It will certainly be a lot of fun!”

DP was created in 2015 in the beautiful hill town of Perugia, the capital of Umbria in central Italy and this is their first UK tour.

In the Beginning Was the Sound is on Saturday 16 June at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £16 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or online at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
