The Station Shop In Great Exhibition Of The North
Monday - June 11, 2018
The Shop at The Station is taking part in The Great Exhibition of The North this summer by running a time capsule project.

Visitors will be invited to produce a mini-make piece of artwork inspired by their visit to The Station and the surrounding area, small enough to fit on a lollypop stick for children and concertina sketchbook for adults, which will then be placed in a time capsule. Over the 80 days of the project a variety of media will be introduced to encourage return visits including ink, collage and printmaking led by artist and shop manager Sue Dewhurst.

Sue says, “We are thrilled to be part of The Great Exhibition of The North's 'Inspired By...' programme and hope visitors to Gateshead will  break their journey to visit The Shop, make their mark for posterity in the Concertina Sketchbook have a  wander around the fantastically restored Victorian Station enjoying all on offer here and then see what Richmond is all about too. At The Shop we work hard to bring together a collection of unusual, often unique, design-led work from artists around the UK giving small scale, quality makers the chance to show in this wonderful setting.”

The Shop ran a successful summer make last year, in which visitors from all over the country made their contribution to a Cartoon Relay. It is hoped this new project will encourage interactive, cross- generational input, prompt family discussion e.g identity and connections with railways, social history, the area and North in general as well as introduce art and artist made work to new audiences.

The time capsule project will commence at The Station on 23rd June and will run until 9th September.
