Richmond’s Largest Showcase Of Artists Comes To The Station This Week
Wednesday - July 18, 2018
The Station is gearing up for its biggest exhibition of the year this week as final preparations for A Spot on the Wall take place.

This year’s Spot sees over 80 amateur and professional artists, photographers and sculptors come together to fill the walls and cabinets of the old station building with an extensive collection of works - all of which are for sale - with prices starting from as little as £30.

Gallery co-ordinator Thea Treweek says, “This exhibition is so special as it brings together such a huge range of talented artists. Whether this is their first exhibition or they have been exhibiting for years, as a profession or a hobby, they sit side by side on the walls of our beautiful building.

As well as this, as a piece of art is sold from the artist's spot, they replace it with another. This is great for the artist, as there are virtually unlimited opportunities for sales, but it is also great for visitors, as the exhibition looks different every time."

Throughout this year’s A Spot on the Wall, The Station is encouraging children to become exhibiting artists by designing their own ‘spot’ to display in the building’s Artisan gallery.

Communications co-ordinator Jemma Holliday says, “ Mini SPOT is a wonderful opportunity to develop the confidence in our young artists. Our recent Lego-themed exhibition has shown just how much children love to be involved in art and their community. I love displaying the children’s finished work – seeing their faces when they get to put their art pride of place on our walls is definitely a highlight of my job. Spot provides the perfect opportunity to include every age range and inspire our artists of the future.”

There will also be regular artist demonstrations held in the Substation – see website for dates www.thestation.co.uk

See A Spot on the Wall from 21st July – 5th September at The Station, Richmond. The Station is open seven days a week,  9am – 9pm, with The Station Café now open until 8pm daily.
