Love Being Local
Friday - February 12, 2016
People living in and around Richmond are being reminded how great it is to be local, with free entry to the town’s key tourist attractions later this month.

The Green Howards Museum, Richmond Castle, The Georgian Theatre Royal and Richmondshire Museum will all open their doors for free on Saturday 27 February.

“We want Richmondshire residents to come into the town and visit our attractions ahead of the  main tourist season; reminding themselves of the wonderful history and heritage that’s right on their doorstep,” explains Lynda Powell, Chair of the Welcome to Richmond group, which has created the Love Being Local event.  “With free admission, this is a great opportunity for people to visit our venues, have an excellent experience, and then tell their friends, family and visitors what’s on offer.”

As well as getting in to the museums, castle and theatre for free, Richmondshire residents will also be in with a chance of winning a prize hamper by completing a ‘Noted Locals’ trail round the five participating venues.

The Station, which does not charge an admission fee, is also taking part in the initiative, with history and heritage information on display, and running guided tours at 11am and 2pm.

To gain free admission on the day, residents should bring some documentation proving their Richmondshire residency.
All of the attractions, as well as the town’s volunteer run Tourist Information Centre are keen to welcome visitors on the day who may be interested in giving some time to help out during 2016.

The group hopes the free day for locals will be as successful as its Town Ticket initiative, which was launched in 2015 and will return in April this year; sponsored by Richmond Town Council, and giving discounted entry to four of the town’s attractions.
