Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society To Stage UK Amateur Premiere Of The Veil
Tuesday - March 15, 2016
A Ghost Thriller set in Early 19th Century Ireland, the play features a defrocked priest, an impoverished landowner and her daughter Hannah, who appears to have an extra sensory awareness. As Hannah finds her powers taken advantage of, the ghostly and mystical manifestations of the old house she lives in take hold.
The Veil, by Conor McPherson, will be the first full length play with RADS for Gregan Davis, who joined the society last year but has over 50 years of experience in amateur productions ranging from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to the Kuwait Players.
“I’ve been wanting to put on a production of The Veil since it was first on at the National Theatre in 2011,” said Gregan, “I was lucky enough to be on a backstage tour and we saw the set and how they did a certain part of the show – which I won’t reveal for now, you will have to come and see the production! But I was inspired by what I saw, so I purchased a copy of the play in the bookshop straight after the tour and have been wanting to put it on ever since.”
The Veil had its premiere at the National Theatre in 2011, and a revival in 2013 but has been surprisingly absent from amateur performances. “It’s brilliant that we are getting the opportunity to put on the UK amateur premiere of this production,” said Mike Walker, Chairman of RADS. “The historical setting of the Georgian Theatre Royal will only add to the atmosphere of the production and we hope that audiences will leave having felt chills.”
The Veil runs from Thursday 24th – Saturday 26th March 2016 at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond. Tickets are available from Box Office on 01748 825252 or online at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
