Families Are Invited To Tread The Boards This Half Term
Tuesday - October 25, 2016
An historic theatre is offering fun for all the family this half term with specially tailored tours.
Richmond's Georgian Theatre Experience will be running special family tours on Thursday 27 October at 10.30am and 2.30pm. The tour has been devised to appeal to all ages and will highlight elements of the theatre's past which will specifically appeal to younger visitors.
As well as finding out about The Georgian Theatre Royal's 228-year history, visitors will be able to raise the curtain on 'The Woodland Scenery'; recently restored and taking centre stage in the theatre's new exhibition area; dress up in costumes; find out what it was like to be a theatre-goer in Georgian times; and explore beneath the boards.
"There's a lot to discover," explains The Georgian Theatre Royal's Heritage Learning Officer Susie Wood, who has developed the family focussed tours. "Our guides have a wealth of stories to tell about the actors, the building, and some of the less attractive habits of the audiences who would regularly spend up to six hours at a time in the theatre in those days and witness a wide variety of entertainment!"
Regular tours will run, as usual, on the hour between 10am and 4pm.
