A Richmond resident who recently lost her battle with cancer, has had her dying wish granted, with a Darlington premiere of an international film she appeared in.
Morven Lawson, a prominent member of the Richmond community and teacher of the Bright Path meditation, expressed the wish that the documentary, CHOICE, be shown locally, before she died in July.
In response to the appeal, Darlington's Odeon Cinema have now offered the opportunity of a one-off showing, with a hope that at least 60 tickets will be sold during the pre-sale.
Morven's husband, Dr. Richard Lawson, said: "Morven was passionate about helping people find peace, which is what this film is about, and she would be delighted that the film will be shown locally."
CHOICE is a feature-length documentary showing a diverse range of people, from all over the world, making the choice for a better life through meditation. They range from stressed business people, ballet dancers and writers, to maximum security prisoners and foster children.
Morven's appearance in the documentary came after the filmmakers visited her Richmond home, Temple Lodge, the UK centre for the Bright Path, to discover how meditation was helping her during her cancer battle.
Producer, Greg Hopkinson, said: "These people are finding real peace, often against incredible odds. It shows true freedom is in everyone’s reach. With the film we wanted to show more people that peace is possible.”
Sally Lewis, who also helped produce the film alongside Bafta-winning film editor Scott Flyger, and double Emmy-award winning cinematographer Scott Simper, said: "We want to inspire and give hope that there is a different way of being."
CHOICE has been selected for the Los Angeles 2016 Awareness Film Festival, Chicago’s International Social Change Film Festival and will also be screened at the 2016 Worldwide Meeting on Human Values in Mexico at the end of October.
The one-off showing at the Odeon Cinema, Northgate, Darlington will be on Monday 14th November at 6pm and tickets are only available up to 6th November, via the website: https://tickets.demand.film/event/1214
