Food Hygiene Ratings for Richmondshire Takeaways Amongst Best in Country
Monday - February 6, 2017
A new study has revealed that food hygiene standards at takeaways and sandwich shops in Richmondshire are amongst the highest in the country.
Out of 355 council areas in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scotland has a different rating system), Richmondshire had the 5th highest percentage of businesses with top marks.
When takeaways rated both good (4) and very good (5) were taken into consideration, Richmondshire came 4th, with North Devon ranked first.
The Food Standards Agency website holds the data from inspections carried out by each local authority under the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme. Every business that serves food is awarded with a hygiene rating between 0 and 5 under the scheme. Of the 36 applicable takeaways and sandwich shops in Richmondshire, 30 had the top rating, with the remainder scoring either 3 or 4. There were no premises with a zero, one or two rating.
Linda Firth, a Director at LoveMyVouchers.co.uk said, “The study aimed to highlight the importance of food hygiene ratings for customers deciding which takeaways to spend their hard earned money on. If more people use the best rated establishments, this could help to drive food hygiene standards upwards as businesses compete.”
Food establishments in Wales and Northern Ireland are already required to clearly display the rating that they receive under the Scheme, with England to follow suit from 2019.
