Swimmers in Richmondshire urged to take the plunge for Marie Curie

Swimmers in Richmondshire are being urged to take the plunge in the world’s biggest fundraising swim. Richmond Swimming Pool, plus Stokesley and Catterick Leisure Centre are among 600 venues nationally hosting Swimathon to help raise vital funds for Marie Curie, the UK’s leading charity for people living with a terminal illness and their families.

Now in its 30th year, Swimathon will take place across the weekend of 7th-9th April. Swimmers can challenge themselves to distances 5k, 2.5k or 1.5k, entering individual or in teams.

Community Fundraiser, Gemma Hewitt, is encouraging people throughout the district to head down to their local pool to take on a Swimathon Challenge: “Let’s make this the best Swimathon yet, support your local pool and help us raise much needed funds. We really want everyone to get involved, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced swimmer, there’s a challenge to suit everyone!

Everyone down at the Richmond pool https://www.facebook.com/Richmond-Swimming-Pool-132062740204461/ is super excited; they are even talking about the staff taking on the challenge. They are trying to make Dill the daffodil bear go vital in support of our Swimathon challenge – follow his journey on facebook.”

Swimathon is taking place right after Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal in March, where the charity is asking everyone to get involved and volunteer to collect, fundraise or donate and wear a daffodil.
