Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. There is no meeting in August. We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments. We then give out details of any up-coming activities. In addition to the monthly meetings, we have a needlecraft afternoon, a walking group, a Mah Jong evening and coffee socials each month. We also organise other events as requested by members.
Visitors are welcome for a couple of meetings with no charge, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is all about. Any women aged 18 or over can join our friendly group. Annual membership for 2019 is £42.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.
We were joined at our September meeting by visitors from Swale, Melsonby and North Cowton WIs, and also by our WI Adviser, Pamela. We welcomed Roz, Vicky and Lynda who told us all about their business, Pinnies and Pearls, which organises catering with a traditional afternoon tea theme. They explained how and why they started the business, and gave us an insight into some of the problems and rewards of their venture.
The September coffee social took place at the Overton Hose Cafe in Reeth, as we wanted to support the area following the flooding in July. We are planning to return to Reeth for the next couple of socials.
