Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. There is no meeting in August. We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments. We then give out details of any up-coming activities. In addition to the monthly meetings, we have a needlecraft afternoon, a walking group, a Mah Jong evening and coffee socials each month. We also organise other events as requested by members.
Visitors are welcome for a couple of meetings with no charge, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is all about. Any women aged 18 or over can join our friendly group. Annual membership for 2020 is £43.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.
We were joined by WI Adviser Pamela and visitors Gill, Thea, Frances, Lisa and Autumn for our meeting this month. Dennis and Elizabeth Graves from Mocha came along to tell us all about chocolate, bringing along some delicious samples to try. 14 members enjoyed the meal at 149 in Catterick Garrison, and arrangements were made for our craft session making folded paper flowers with Barbara. Seats are still available for the coach trip to York on 28th November.
Visitors Thea, Christine, Pat, Judith and Frances joined us for the talk by Marion Moverley on Keeping the Feast. She explained how people in olden times used saints and feast days, and also the reigns of sovereigns, to keep track of the months and years. The craft session was enjoyed by 9 members who made several paper flowers. Nominations for next year's committee are needed. Arrangements were made for the Christmas party - all members are welcome to attend.
Our December meeting took the form of a Christmas party, with a delicious supper provided by the members. We had plenty of time for catching up with each other, as well as trying our hand at a quiz and several games. There were few announcements this month. Information for the New Year will be sent out at the end of the month.
