Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. There is no meeting in August. We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments. We then give out details of any up-coming activities. In addition to the monthly meetings, we have a needlecraft afternoon, a walking group, a Mah Jong evening and coffee socials each month. We also organise other events as requested by members.
Visitors are welcome for a couple of meetings with no charge, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is all about. Any women aged 18 or over can join our friendly group. Annual membership for 2019 is £42.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.
New member Judy and visitors Georgina and Christine were welcomed to our July meeting. Chris Lloyd gave a very interesting and amusing talk about the connections between Lewis Carroll and the Croft and Richmond areas, and some of the probable origins of characters in the Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass stories.
Arrangements were made for the regular monthly events, the circular Muker/Keld walk, Mah Jong and the coffee social which is being held at Mrs Pumphrey's Cafe at Ellerton Abbey. Final arrangements were made for the coffee morning in the Town Hall on 17th August, and plans are progressing for the meal out and the paper flower making craft event in October and possible coach trip to York in November. The Group musical concert is on 25th September in the Catholic Church Hall with the Richmond Operatic Society Choir.
There will be no meeting in August, but we return on 9th September with Vicky give a talk about her catering business and how to become an entrepreneur.
The weather was very kind to us for our coach trip to Skipton and it was a great success, so much so we are planning another coach trip in November to York.
