Richmond WI meets in the church hall behind St Joseph and St Francis Xavier Church, Newbiggin, DL10 4DT, on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. There is no meeting in August. We usually have a speaker at the start at the meeting, followed by refreshments. We then give out details of any up-coming activities. In addition to the monthly meetings, we have a needlecraft afternoon, a walking group, a Mah Jong evening and coffee socials each month. We also organise other events as requested by members.
Visitors are welcome for a couple of meetings with no charge, so prospective new members can see what Richmond WI is all about. Any women aged 18 or over can join our friendly group. Annual membership for 2019 is £42.00, but new members joining throughout the year pay a pro rata rate, depending when they join.
We welcomed Stuart Parts to talk about his time as mayor of Richmond. He outlined his duties as mayor, having served five terms since 2002, including some interesting and amusing incidents. He then opened the evening to questions from members. Although these were not always strictly about his time as mayor, everyone enjoyed his answers, learning more about what the duties involve. He was thanked by Grace.
Next Meeting - Monday 13th May
Thie will be our chance to debate the resolutions which will be brought to the annual meeting of the National Federation in June, when Pam will represent us. These are "Don't Fear the Smear" and "The Decline in Local Bus Services". After refreshments we will be having a light hearted games evening.
