Popular ladies’ choir, Musicality, is staging a special concert at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday 30 June at 7.30pm, to raise valuable funds for this historic venue.
Built in 1788, the Theatre is the most complete Georgian playhouse remaining in Britain and occupies a very important place in world theatre history. As a registered charity, it relies heavily on the generous assistance of individuals and organisations, and events such as this are an important part of its fundraising calendar.
The concert will feature songs and music from the stage and screen, with hits from Broadway – including Oklahoma, Carousel, Chicago and Phantom of the Opera – mingling with a host of Disney favourites, such as Cinderella and Mary Poppins.
The Choir will be joined by alto soloist Jenny Ash and professional violinist Jonathan Sparey, accompanied by his wife Elizabeth. Jonathan’s musical career began working with Alfred Deller and the Deller Consort. He was also a member of the prestigious Fitzwilliam String Quartet for 37 years during which time he played with musicians such as Vladimir Ashkenazy and Dmitri Shostakovich. Since leaving the Quartet, he has focussed on performing Baroque and later music on original instruments. At the Richmond concert, Jonathan will be playing music by Dvorak and film music including Ladies in Lavender and Schindler’s List.
Musicality is based in Richmond and directed by Gillian Ash – a successful composer and professional musician.
Clare Allen, the Theatre’s Chief Executive, said: “We are really looking forward to the concert. Musicality is an extremely talented group and is always popular with our audiences. I’m sure that we are all set for a fabulous and varied musical evening that will also be of great benefit to the Theatre.”
Tickets for the Musicality concert are priced from £8 to £13 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
