New businesses spring up

In recent months we’ve welcomed several new businesses to Richmond, all adding to the vibrant mix of independent retail and refreshments. In these post-pandemic times it’s important to support local businesses and entrepreneurs. In a market town like ours, their flair, energy and downright optimism creates a real buzz.

Lovers of cheese will find a piece of heaven in Victoria Road where The Cheese Press has opened, offering familiar and adventurous cheeses to customers from their beautiful barrel-vaulted building, whilst Gelato Lusso, which already has a shop in Barnard Castle, is now serving up spectacular ice creams on Castle Hill.

House have opened up on the ground floor of the Old Cocoa Rooms in King Street, sharing their space with new florist Love and Bloom. It’s a winning combination for the interiors team who exploded into our lives during lockdown with their hilarious Instagram ‘lives’ transmitted from their original Thirsk store. You should also call into Lulabelles Interiors, recently opened at 17 Frenchgate.

Artist Mackenzie Thorpe is currently operating a pop-up store from beautiful double-fronted premises in King Street, while his permanent Finkle Street gallery is refurbished. Larches, a long-standing Richmond ladies’ clothing and accessories shop in Rosemary Lane is under new management.
