They sewed to survive…

At the height of the Holocaust, 25 young Jewish inmates of the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp were selected to create beautiful fashions for elite Nazi women, in a dedicated salon established by the camp commandant’s wife.  It was work that they hoped would spare them from the gas chambers.

Drawing on diverse sources - including interviews with the last surviving seamstress - The Dressmakers of Auschwitz follows the fates of these brave women. Their bonds of family and friendship not only helped them endure persecution, but also to play their part in camp resistance.

Join historian Lucy Adlington (History Wardrobe) to find out more about their lives and fates as she discusses her bestselling book.

The Dressmakers of Auschwitz is a remarkable true story of resilience, camaraderie and quiet heroism in the most extreme circumstances.

“Compelling... Adlington tells the stories of the women with clarity and steely precision.” Jewish Chronicle

This event is part of the Richmond Walking and Book Festival.

Tickets cost £15 (£7.50 for full-time students or those in receipt of benefits) and are available from The Georgian Theatre Royal Box Office on 01748 825252 or online.
