Dark Skies and getting Into Astronomy

Dark Skies and getting Into Astronomy

What's On, Art, Talks & Workshops, Festivals, Children & Families, February

With some of the UK’s clearest skies and most breath taking landscapes, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is the ideal place to celebrate the beauty of our universe. This special event at The Green Howards Museum invites you to discover what makes our dark skies so exceptional and learn how to begin your own journey into astronomy.

Our speaker, Mike Evershed, has been an enthusiastic amateur astronomer for more than 50 years. A science graduate with a career spanning computers and finance, Mike now organises the Reeth Informal Astronomy Group, bringing together skywatchers from across the Northern Dales. He has contributed to numerous local astronomy events, including previous Dark Skies Festival and Swaledale Festival activities, and helped collect data that supported the Yorkshire Dales’ designation as a Dark Skies Reserve.

Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned stargazer, this engaging talk offers the perfect opportunity to deepen your understanding of the night sky and perhaps spark a lifelong passion for astronomy.
