Badminton Club

Based in Richmond, we are members of the Darlington and District League and compete in a number of leagues and competitions.

Our club nights are held at SFX School from 7pm till 10pm on Wednesday evenings during the school term.  For club night dates, please register.

Our Junior Badminton Club is on a Wednesday night and runs from 6pm until 7.30pm. This includes and overlap with the senior club of 30 minutes allowing them to play games together.

Bowls Club

Richmond (Yorks) Bowls Club, situated between the Cricket Club and Ronaldshay Play Park, is a friendly organisation dedicated to bringing health and wellbeing to members of all ages and ability. We are affiliated to Bowls England and the Yorkshire Bowls Association. A day centre for people living with dementia, run by Dementia Forward with the generous support of The Friends of Garget Walker House. Dementia Forward run groups known as Hub Clubs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 3pm, led by experienced staff with the support of a team of volunteers. The Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre

The Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre offers a range of weekly classes for young people aged 6 to 18 years that cover all areas of theatre and stagecraft, including acting, directing, devising and stage management. There is also a Musical Theatre class for those who particularly enjoy singing and dancing.

No performance experience is necessary and everyone is welcome whatever their abilities or confidence levels.

Sessions take place in the Theatre’s modern, spacious studio either after school or on Saturday and are run by our professional Youth Theatre Officer, Ruth Allison. There are plenty of opportunities to take part in a wide variety of productions at all sorts of venues. As well as treading the boards of the historic Georgian Theatre stage, previous years have seen a show go to Edinburgh Festival Fringe and performances have also taken place in Richmond Castle and Richmond Market Place.

Hudswell Community Pub

An Industrial and Provident Society for the benefit of the Hudswell Community. Owners of the George and Dragon Pub, Little Shop, Community Allotments, Community Orchard and Apiary. Whilst HCP own the pub building, the day to day running of the pub is given over to a tenant. The Little Shop, Allotments, Orchard and Apiary are run entirely by volunteers.

A community choir for children aged between 6 and 18 years of age. We are huge fun to be a part of, but we also strive for excellence and have big plans for growth and development. Richmond and District Angling Society

Founded 1912, The Richmond and District Angling Society, with over 230 members, remains very active.

Members and guests purchasing day tickets have access to over 12 miles of water along the beautiful river Swale and through the historic market town of Richmond.

The society’s aims and objectives are to:

• Strive to protect the ecology of the river
• Promote the sport of angling
• Improve the fishing on club waters
• Collaborate with other organisations to combat pollution, reduce litter, prevent illegal fishing, reduce rural crime and to protect the environment
• Engender inclusivity and diversity

In support of our aims, the society has a junior section and more recently a ladies section both of which are developing with opportunities for new members. 

The society provides a number of events for members which include environmental monitoring, bank development work, get fishing days for new members, litter picking mornings and tutorial events for differing fishing techniques.

The society’s website provides more details of the fishing which is available, the events planned in the coming months and how to either join or purchase a day permit.

Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society

RADS is privileged to perform in the Georgian Theatre Royal for three major productions a year, and is committed to providing entertainment of the highest possible standard. We try to vary our programme as much as possible, to encompass all strands of drama. Our members turn out in all weathers to rehearse, build sets, and make costumes and props, so that when a production goes to the Theatre, it is as polished as we can make it.

On the second Monday of each month (except August!) we hold a ‘social evening’ in our clubhouse at 6-8 Castle Hill, Richmond. These vary in content from month to month, but are usually fun and give members the chance to chat and ‘catch up’ - not always possible during rehearsals!

We meet each Tuesday evening at 7.15pm from September through to April and offer a wide selection of activities including internal and external competitions where members new and old, experienced and beginner can challenge for numerous club trophies at the end of each season.

Richmond Dales Talking Newspaper

This is a volunteer-run service, operating from a studio in Richmond Library, that provides twice-monthly recordings on CD, containing local news items from the Darlington and Stockton Times and Richmondshire Today, to visually impaired residents of Richmondshire. We are always keen to hear from anyone, particularly those suffers from visual impairment, who feel that they would benefit from receiving our service, and also from prospective volunteers who would like to become part of our team in the four categories: Editing, Reading, Sound Recording and CD Production.  In all cases, please contact our Chairman, Jonathan Roberts (see Contact section), who will be pleased to explain the system and give full details.

Richmond Pride - litter picks and tidies

We meet every 1st Sunday of the month between spring and autumn at 10am at the Town Hall steps for a couple of hours' work to tidy up areas of the town.

No equipment or experience is needed, but you might want to bring your own gardening/tough gloves. A recent donation from Lennox Lodge enabled us to buy lots of equipment, so we are well-kitted out for the tasks at hand.

The Rotary Club of Richmond was established in 1955 and comprises individuals from a wide spectrum of the Richmond and district business community.

The club's members meet on a regular weekly basis to enjoy each other's fellowship and discuss ways to serve others.

We involve ourselves with the local community and particularly look to support projects with strong local connections - with youth and the schools, with the aged and the handicapped and with support for the hospices. The Richmondshire Landscape Trust

The Richmondshire Landscape Trust is a land charity which owns and manages a number of open spaces around Richmond for the benefit and enjoyment of the community. It was originally known by many as ROSA – Richmondshire Open Spaces Appeal – which was the Trust’s fundraising arm.

Amongst the land in its care is:

• Westfields. This is the last of the three original medieval open pastures in Richmond (Gallowfields and Eastfields being the other two).It is a very popular place for walkers and adjoins the popular Coast to Coast long distance walking route as it approaches Richmond from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is also a popular sledging site in the winter
• The Nine Acre Field (OS9100)  - a beautiful wild flower meadow between Westfields and Reeth Road
• Jack King's Wood - this wood is located at the western end of Westfields
• South Bank.  These extensive meadows lie on the south side of the Swale near the Station Bridge
• Sleegill - the land near to Earl's Orchard
   

The Trust was formed in 2004 when a large fund raising campaign was set up to buy some key open spaces from Richmondshire District Council. Since then, the Trust has maintained and enhanced the landscape - rebuilt stone walls, planted hedgerows, and propagated wild flower meadows.

Richmondshire Ramblers

We are a friendly group of walkers who are always pleased to welcome new  members and visitors to the area. We offer regular Sunday walks ranging from 8 to 14 miles and shorter midweek walks. The meeting point for our walks is Nun’s Close car park, Richmond DL10 4UN. Being based in Richmond we have access to The Yorkshire Dales National Park, Teesdale, The North Yorkshire Moors and The Howgill Fells. We have an annual walking holiday abroad, as well as weekend trips within the UK. Anyone may join us on a walk but with the expectation that they become a member of Ramblers after three walks.

Royal Scottish Country Dance Society

Scottish Country Dancing is regarded as being good for your health as it is very active, good for your memory and also sociable. For those who also enjoy Scottish music and dance, it ticks all the boxes!

Richmond Branch is part of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and was formed in 1952. The group is comparatively small, but is very active and holds a variety of classes and events during the season.

Classes are held every Wednesday evening, for adults of mixed abilities including beginners, at the Booth Memorial Hall in Catterick Village, DL10 7LD, from 7.30 - 9.30 pm from September to April. Please contact the Secretary Jan Robinson for further information.

Socials are held monthly, on the first Friday, from September to March in the Town Hall, Richmond from 7.30 - 10.00pm, dancing to recorded music by a variety of good Scottish Country dance bands. Dancers from other groups in the area usually attend these socials.

Dances are held twice a year, in April and October, at Richmond School dancing to live music. These events are attended by lots of dancers from outside the area.

We have a huge programme of outdoor activities with a wide variety of weekend and mid-week events for all levels of ability and fitness. We have very active sections devoted to canoeing (river and sea), caving, mountain biking, road cycling, climbing, skiing and walking and offer a full programme of events in most sections.

We organise activities in the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, Lake District, Scotland and many other areas including Europe and further afield. We have our own club house in Richmond for social events such as slide shows, talks, section meetings and quizzes.
