Visitors are invited to step back in time as tours restart at the Georgian Theatre Royal.

The award-winning Georgian Theatre Experience has reopened for the 2026 season and will run until the end of October. Recently recognised with a 2025 Travellers’ Choice Award and boasting an impressive 4.9-star rating on Tripadvisor, the historic venue continues to delight visitors from across the region and beyond.

The experience offers the chance to explore the UK’s oldest working theatre in its original form. During the tour, visitors can discover the intimate auditorium, hidden trap doors and backstage dressing rooms, as well as an exhibition area featuring original playbills, costumes and props. A highlight for many is the beautifully restored Woodland Scene – Britain’s oldest surviving stage scenery.

Friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guides lead each tour, sharing fascinating and often entertaining stories from the Theatre’s colourful past, ensuring that no two visits are ever quite the same.

Jo Mawhinney, the Theatre’s Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to welcome visitors back for another season of tours. Our guides bring the Theatre’s history to life with passion and storytelling, so every visit is special.”

Ticket prices have been held at £8 for adults and £3 for children, and tickets are valid for 12 months, allowing visitors to return again and again throughout the season.

Tours begin at 10am, with the last tour at 3pm. There is no need to book – simply turn up at the Box Office on Victoria Road. Larger groups are advised to call ahead.

For more information, visit the Theatre’s website or call 01748 823710.
