Wildfire Risk

News

The message from North Yorkshire Council is clear: a thrown-away cigarette; a smouldering fire; that's all it takes.

And Joel Brookfield, of the North York Moors National Park Authority, said: “While the term ‘wildfire’ might lead people to think that these events are natural or spontaneous, it’s the actions of people that pose the greatest risks."

It's not just the countryside that's at risk; within the last few days, a barbecue fire had to be extinguished in the riverside undergrowth of that most park-like of locations, the Batts area of Richmond.
